A guide for parents of children with ADHD, Autism….
Helping Neurodivergent Children and Teenagers Thrive:
Counselling & Mentoring / Coaching Service

Helping Neurodivergent Children

Navigating life as a neurodivergent child—or raising one—comes with a unique set of strengths, insights, and challenges. Whether living with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, or processing differences, standard school setups and social expectations don't always fit neurodivergent learning and emotional styles. This can leave both young people and their families feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or searching for practical solutions.

Walking Into Life's Challenges With Neurodiversity

In my practice, supporting children and families navigating neurodiversity is a key focus. Working directly with these amazing young people continuously highlights just how transformative the right support can truly be.

I have mainly supported teenagers - right through to university age, but have experience of supporting children of all ages. I have an enhanced and up to date DBS.

Here is how my integrated counselling and coaching services work hand-in-hand to support neurodivergent young people:

Emotional Regulation

Neurodivergent young people often experience emotions intensely. Sensory overload, masking, and executive dysfunction can lead to sudden meltdowns, shutdowns, or high anxiety. In our sessions, we work together to identify sensory triggers and physical cues before emotions escalate, building tailored coping toolkits (such as grounding techniques and self-monitoring strategies) to help teens navigate daily life with greater control.

Building Self-Esteem and Self-Belief

Repeatedly being told to "fit in" or adjust to neurotypical expectations can erode anyone's sense of worth. A core focus of our work is shifting the narrative from fixing weaknesses to embracing individual strengths, re framing neurodivergent traits not as deficits, but as distinct, valuable ways of processing the world.

Developing True Confidence

Confidence isn't about fitting in; it's about feeling secure in your own skin. Counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental space where teens can unmask and express themselves authentically, learning to set healthy boundaries, articulate their needs, and advocate for themselves at school, at home, and with friends.

Helping Teenagers Find Themselves

Adolescence is a natural period of self-discovery, but trying to fit into a neurotypical world often causes teens to mask and lose sight of who they truly are. Through gentle exploration, they are supported to navigate societal expectations, reconnect with their authentic self, and embrace their unique identity with pride.

Why This Integrated Approach Works for Families

By combining coaching and counselling, I offer a comprehensive framework for growth:

  • Counselling addresses emotional well-being, past frustration, processing feelings, and identity work in a safe, confidential space.

  • Coaching focuses on practical skill-building, setting achievable goals, and developing actionable strategies for everyday life.

Next Steps

Navigating the right support for your child doesn't have to be overwhelming. Many families looking for neurodiversity support are often burnt out and stressed trying to navigate the best way forward for their child.
